METRO MANILA -- A homeless woman was taken into custody once she was found wandering in Barangay Bagumbayan, Taguig where things got interesting when locals found big amount of cash in bundles inside her bag.
According to the initial report of DZMM, a local health worker named Remedios Tenorio first found the woman identified as Carmelita Bernasor and asked where she was going.
They first found the woman on Thursday, just sitting and staring to nowhere with her body and clothes covered in dirt. She was wandering the area pulling a bag with her. She was asked about herself, but she only answered sparingly. Aside from her name, the only thing she can tell is she's from Malibay, Pasay.
She is being adopted for a few days inside the barangay hall until she was offered by the local health workers to take a bath.
Local officials counted her money and it is a whopping 73,990 pesos in cash. According to 'wandering woman', this amount of money is her savings for the past three decades of selling goods such as candies, soft drinks, and snacks. She said she started to save since 1978.
When asked about where she would want to put the money now, she said she wants to put it in good hands.
As per the 54-year-old woman, a person named Gina was the one responsible for bringing her in Taguig City but she did not clearly indicate how Gina is related to her. She said that she has no relatives in Pasay where she came from and even in their province.
Brgy. Kagawad Gie Concepcion stated that the woman will remain under the custody of their BHW (health workers) who will take care of her while waiting for the decision of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) on what further actions should take on this matter. The money will be temporarily kept in the barangay's treasurer office for safe-keeping.
