MANILA – PBA legend Ramon Fernandez mostly known as the "El Presidente" blames national team coach Chot Reyes for thinking only about himself instead of the team. He said that Gilas Pilipinas would have been more successful in the FIBA World Cup.
El Presidente further explained that Coach Reyes was not focused enough to perform his coaching task in the national team causing Gilas Pilipinas experienced defeat after defeat in the international scene.
Sarili lang niya ang iniisip niya eh,” said the PBA leged during his podcast interview with Snow Badua of Spin.ph.
Fernandez explained that one of the biggest mistakes Chot Reyes made was when it took him so long to decide to use both Andray Blatche and June Mar Fajardo on the field at the same time.
Coach Reyes made this decision during the game against Senegal and resulted to victory. But according to Fernandez, it was too late. He further said that, "“Isa lang nga ang pinanalo nya, no bearing game. What's the big fuss about it?”
“A case in point na sinasabi ko na hindi na-maximize ang naturalized player natin. Dun sa Puerto Rico... sa tingin mo si JJ Barea makakadrive ng ganun ganun na lang kung merong dalawang posteng malaki na nandyan si Fajardo at si Blatche sa ilalim?” the four-time PBA Most Valuable Player pointed out.
Reyes fielded both Blatche and Fajardo against Senegal and this translated to a win but came too late, he said.
