PH Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago Hoax Death Victim

Tags

Manila, Philippines - On Thursday night, July 10, 2014, Philippine Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago, the 69-year-old Iron Lady of Asia, became a victim of hoax news. A website declared that she is dead and spread it over Facebook. A photo with a slogan "R.I.P. Sen. Miriam Santiago, 1945 - 2014, We Love You" became viral online.

It is saddening that many people still believe with this kind of fake scheme in the online world. By liking, sharing, commenting, wrong information are being passed over and over again.

It was on Wednesday, July 2, 2014, during a press conference, when the Senator Miriam opened up to public that she was diagnosed with a stage 4 lung cancer but she strongly stated that this is a nonmalignant condition in which a pill that she is taking would be sufficient to combat the cancer cells. By saying this, the news that's been going around that she's already dead is obviously not true.

hoax news spread over social media that Sen. Santiago passed away

It is a fake news to spread some kind of computer virus.

There have been countless fake death news posted mostly in the social media platforms (particularly Facebook). These are probably the works of cybercriminals which goals are to victimize netizens for their own dark personal interests which would harm you.

These cybercriminals can get your personal data, login details, and they can even sneak-in to your devices and machines such as your laptop, desktop, and smartphones.

This kind of "modus operandi" not only harming the images of the people they are using but also they can steal your identity and even your financial information which they can use to steal your bank money.
